You Know The Number: Seven Bond Movies In BFI Film Chart

You know the name, and you know the number. It should come as no surprise that no fewer than seven James Bond movies appear in the British Film Institute's newly updated 'Ultimate Film Chart', which is based on a wealth of new data compiled by researchers from both the BFI's National Film Library and the UK's Channel-4 TV channel. The two teams worked alongside each other to mine the information.

The resulting chart is a detailed survey of the top 100 films at the UK box office, compiled according to the number of tickets sold, and contains information on about a century of British movie-going habits and patterns up to the year 2004. It will prove an invaluable resource for film historians. BFI Director Amanda Nevill said: 'The results have amazed even those who researched the data'.

Sean Connery's fourth Bond film 'Thunderball' (1965), which broke all box office records on its release in the UK, remains the most widely seen James Bond film in Britain. For Bond fans, the key entries of interest in the top 100 films are:

  • Thunderball, at Number 18 (15.6 million)
  • Goldfinger, at Number 27 (13.9 million)
  • The Spy Who Loved Me, at Number 34 (12.46 million)
  • Moonraker, at Number 61 (9.41 million)
  • Live And Let Die, at Number 69 (9 million)
  • Die Another Day, at Number 80 (8.58 million)
  • You Only Live Twice, at Number 90 (8.3 million)
