Bond 23 has ‘a really good script’

In a tie-in interview designed to help promote ‘Cowboys and Aliens’ in the UK, Daniel Craig offered some thoughts recently on both James Bond and his acting career in general.

Speaking (appropriately enough) to ‘Seven’ magazine, the culture supplement of the UK’s Sunday Telegraph newspaper, Craig revealed that the original decision to accept the role of 007 was a tough one for him. This was because he knew that the gossip and rumour ante would be upped and this gave him the most pause for thought before signing up for the role: ‘But you can’t be scared off by it’, he said. ‘That would be the wrong decision’.

When he was asked whether he was afraid that the Bond role would box him in, he responded: ‘Definitely, but that’s also no reason not to do it. Plus, I have no responsibility to the part outside of the films. I’m not trying to be a rebel about it, but when I am not doing it, I’m simply not doing it’.

However, after a period of not doing it, Craig confirmed that he’s genuinely excited about being 007 again: ‘The hiatus may prove to be a good thing, because I’m itching to have another crack at it, particularly after Quantum of Solace. We had to cobble that one together because it was made in the midst of the writers’ strike, and it had an effect on the finished product, no doubt’. Craig continued: ‘With this one, the right things are in place – Sam’s on board and we have the bones of a really good script’.

Asked if he will be doing more 007 films after Bond 23, Craig said: ‘I think so. I take one job at a time. Put it this way, if we mess up, I won’t be asked to do another. The contract goes both ways. I can walk away from it or they can sack me’.

Meanwhile, various media reports from India appear to confirm earlier suggestions that the country will indeed be one of the locations for Bond 23. In our April Newsletter, we noted that India might be a possible location.  Intriguingly, Daniel Craig himself, interviewed recently in the India Times newspaper, said it was ‘too early to talk about it’. However, in an interview for The Telegraph of India, Craig revealed at one point: ‘We are working on the schedule for India...’.
